The word "Shangri la" means an imaginary paradise on earth, a faraway haven of idyllic beauty and tranquility.
Many years ago, I was invited by my former employer to have lunch with his family at his residence in India. As soon as I got off the bus, a beautiful mansion located off the bustling street caught my attention. I was awestruck by its curb appeal as I was making my way past the ornate gate, admiring the perfectly manicured shrubs and the variety of flowering plants situated along an array of tall lined trees. The sight was picturesque! Their home was tastefully decorated, and the meal prepared by his wife was absolutely delicious. It was a perfect afternoon retreat and the sign outside their home said "Shangri-La." This series is inspired by the memory of the beautiful afternoon I experienced 22 years ago. These paintings are a representation of my Shangri-La.
