Spice It Up

Spice It Up

  • I had only eaten Indian food until I came to the United States. It took me a while to get myself to try and relish food from other cuisines. Now that I have been living here for over two decades, I enjoy eating and cooking various food at home and outside. The truth is I cannot stay away by not eating Indian food for more than three days. My taste buds long for the spice that I grew up tasting.

Herbs and spices are essential elements of any cuisine. A well-balanced meal is impossible without adding hints of herbs and spices. They make the food delectable and beautiful.

In India, any festive or religious event is incomplete without a grand feast and a mandala drawing. This painting celebrates women taking the time and initiative to host an event by planning and preparing elaborate meals in making the home rejoice with positive energy.

The herbs in the painting include Ginger, Star Anise, Rosemary, Cumin, Saffron, Bay Leaf, Clove, Pepper, Juniper, Vanilla, Mint, Parsley, Black Pepper, Basil, Capers, Cardamom, Onion, Salt, and Thyme.
